Ohio Hawks News and Notes

A Note from the Director

WELCOME OHIO HAWK 2008 PLAYERS

Update: We are looking for several 12, 14, and 16U players to round out our rosters. If you are interested contact me at 513.217.5285 or email at CoachKen@OhioHawks.com.

I would like to welcome everyone to the Ohio Hawk Organization. We pride ourselves on teaching the game, fundamentals, and having experienced coaches. We have made our decision on inviting you to be apart of our organization and have seen that you as a player can contribute greatly to this program. We appreciate you taking time to consider the Ohio Hawks as your home for the next softball year and believe you will find a happy home with us. This is a new organization and we hope to shine and make a name for ourselves in the Southwest, Ohio area. Thus being said, welcome to the Ohio Hawks family and let’s play some great ball!

In order to play good softball: hard and long practices, tough tournament schedules, double-header league nights, and even more practicing will be what you need to succeed in this sport. It will be a long season but a beneficial one at that. The fastpitch community in the Midwest longs for what California and southern states have, warm weather all year long. They play all year round and to compete at a national level with competitive teams we need to practice indoors steadily and keep our expectations high. That means dedication and hard work throughout the season.

I myself will be attending practices and tournaments for every age group and will be the backbone of the organization. I’ve coached my daughter for 10 years at the sport and love to coach girls and keep them on the right track…to play at a collegiate level. My door will always be open for questions and concerns. I am excited to meet all the players and families joining this organization and to see the progress they will make.

Harrison Eight Legs Tourney Update

The Hawks traveled to Harrison for the eight legs USSSA WSQ, finishing 6th. All five games were well played, tight battles. Game 2 was a barn burner. It took 2 International tie breaker innings to determine a winner. The Hawks came up short 6-5.

The next game was Sunday morning at 8am. Our competition was the Slammers, who were already 3-0 and run ruled two of the opponents in bracket play already. The Hawks came to play though. Allison Lenos drove a line drive into the gap to plate the first Hawks run. The defense was spectacular. Becca Henry pitched a gem, Giving up just 2 hits, as the Hawks fell in a heartbreaker 2-1. Next up in the 95 degree heat was the consolation final. The Hawks were in this one , 3-2 until the 6th when EMR put it away with 2 unearned runs, 5-2 the final.

This weekends games were the best these young Hawks have played and they should be proud of they performed. Only a few situations during each game decided the outcome.

Stars for the tournament were.

The pitching staff: Becca Henry, Rylie Markle and Aly Staton. They pitched good enough to win each game.

The hitters: Racheal Ward, Allison Lenos and Brooke Taylor.

Next Up: Slugger Fest, Cincinnati, Oh
